The price of a new fuse box mainly depends on three things: do you have a single-phase or three-phase connection, how many circuits do you need, and what does the wiring behind it look like. Below is what we charge, what's included and when it works out more or less expensive.
Short answer: what does a new fuse box cost?
At PandFix, a new single-phase fuse box (consumer unit), including main switch and RCDs (residual current devices), costs € 900 – € 1,520 excl. VAT (€ 1,089 – € 1,839.20 incl.). Replacing a 3-phase unit costs € 1,375 excl. VAT (€ 1,663.75 incl.). Adding four extra circuits to an existing unit costs € 400 excl. VAT (€ 484 incl.). Call-out charges are additional.

What's included in that price?
With a replacement we remove the old consumer unit and install a new, complete unit. What you can expect in the price:
- A new consumer unit with main switch and RCDs (residual current devices), so that the circuits are distributed across multiple RCDs. If one trips, you're not immediately left in the dark.
- Transferring the existing circuits: each wire goes to a fixed position, and we label on the unit which circuit feeds which room.
- Testing afterwards: we check that the RCDs (residual current devices) trip on time and that everything is properly earthed.
- Clear-up: we take the old box with us.
Not included in the fixed price is work behind the unit: running new cables, replacing outdated wiring or extra circuits for new appliances. We discuss that beforehand, with a separate price.
Why one consumer unit costs more than another
- Number of circuits. A small flat with four circuits is completed faster than a family home with twelve circuits plus washing machine, dryer and cooker circuits.
- Single-phase or three-phase. With three-phase (heavy current) you can connect heavier appliances, such as an induction hob with perilex or an EV charging point. You arrange the grid connection itself with the grid operator; we do everything after the meter.
- State of the wiring. If there are still old wires without earth or fabric insulation behind it, we recommend including those. We only see that once the box is open; we then stop first and consult.
- Accessibility. A cramped meter cupboard under the stairs or a unit full of cables takes more time.

How it works in practice
- Send photo. Send a photo of your meter cupboard via WhatsApp and tell us which appliances are being added (EV charging point, induction, heat pump).
- Price upfront. You get a price based on the tariff list. If something is not clearly visible, we'll come for an on-site assessment at the starting rate.
- Arrange a day. Expect a few hours without power. Fridge and freezer usually cope fine during that time if kept closed.
- Installation and testing. Afterwards we show you which circuit goes where and how to test an RCD.

Questions about the cost of a fuse box
What does a new fuse box cost at PandFix?

How long will I be without power?
Usually a few hours, depending on the number of circuits. We agree a time in advance so you can plan accordingly.
Shouldn't I just extend instead?
If your box is still good and there's space, yes. Four extra circuits cost € 400 excl. VAT (€ 484 incl.). If the box is old or full, replacement is often the better choice.
Do I need three-phase for an EV charging point or induction?
Not always. An induction hob can often run on its own cooker circuit, and many EV charging points also work on single-phase. We'll look at your appliances and your connection together.
Does the grid operator need to come?
Only if the connection itself needs upgrading, for example from single-phase to three-phase. You request that from your grid operator. We install the fuse box (consumer unit) behind the meter.
Can I get a price without you visiting?
Usually yes, based on a clear photo of the unit. If more is needed, we'll come and inspect for the starting rate of € 100 – € 165 excl. VAT (€ 121 – € 199.65 incl.).
