Why a toilet gets blocked
Usually the blockage is just behind the bowl, in the bend or the connection to the drain. Too much toilet paper at once, wet wipes, sanitary towels, cotton buds or cat litter don't dissolve and get stuck. In older homes, limescale and urine scale also play a part: the passage gradually narrows until it blocks up one day.
Sometimes the problem lies further away. Does the toilet gurgle when you use the shower or washing machine, or do several drains run slowly at the same time? Then the blockage is in the soil stack or sewer. In a flat, that also affects the neighbours. We first determine where the blockage is, so you don't have to call twice.
