During a renovation, the gas pipe often ends up in the wrong place. And if you switch to induction, you're left with a gas tap in the kitchen that's better capped off safely. Working on a gas pipe is not a DIY job: afterwards the pipe must be sealed and this must be checked. Here you can read what we do, what it costs and what you arrange with the grid operator.
Short answer: what does relocating a gas pipe cost?
Relocating a gas pipe from the meter cupboard costs € 250 excl. VAT (€ 302.50 incl.) at PandFix, plus call-out charges. We often cap off a gas pipe when switching to induction in the same appointment as installing the cooker circuit. If you want to go completely gas-free, the grid operator will remove the gas meter and connection; you request that from them.
- Never work on a gas pipe yourself.
- After the work, we check the pipe for leaks.
- Induction? Include the cooker circuit straight away: € 350 excl. VAT (€ 423.50 incl.).

Relocating a gas pipe during a renovation
Is the cooker moving to the other side of the kitchen, is the central heating boiler moving to the loft, or does the pipe need to be removed for a new cupboard? Then we relocate the gas pipe from the meter cupboard or from an existing point. We choose a route that remains easily accessible, fit shut-off valves where they belong and check afterwards that everything is sealed.
- Kitchen renovation: the connection point goes exactly where the new hob or cooker will be.
- Relocating central heating boiler: often together with the flue and water pipes. See also replacing central heating boiler: costs.
- Pipe in the way: for a new staircase, wall or cupboard we reroute it neatly.
Switching to induction: capping off the gas tap
If you're switching to electric cooking, there'll be a gas tap left over in the kitchen. We don't just leave it: we shut off the pipe and cap it off professionally, so there's no risk of someone accidentally turning the tap on. If the central heating boiler is also being removed, the entire internal pipe from the meter can be capped off.
For induction, a dedicated cooker circuit is usually required, sometimes with a perilex connection. On perilex and three-phase power and perilex or three-phase power for the hob you can read what is needed.
What the grid operator does
The gas meter and the connection up to and including the meter belong to the grid operator. If you want to disconnect from gas completely, you request the grid operator to remove the connection. We do the work after the meter: the pipes in your home.
Why you don't do gas work yourself
You don't always smell a small leak in a gas pipe straight away, but it can be dangerous. That's why we always work with the gas tap closed, use materials intended for gas and check afterwards that the pipe is leak-tight. Do you smell gas now? Then first read gas smell in the house: what should you do.
How we work
- Photos and requirement. Where does the pipe run now, where does it need to go or what needs to be removed.
- Price in advance. According to the price list, with the cooker circuit if applicable.
- Carry out. Gas tap off, relocate or cap off pipe.
- Check. We test the pipe for leaks and turn the gas back on where necessary.
Questions about work on the gas pipe
What does relocating a gas pipe cost?
From the meter cupboard: € 250 excl. VAT (€ 302.50 incl.), plus call-out charge € 35 excl. VAT (€ 42.35 incl.). We discuss a longer or more difficult route in advance.
Can I relocate a gas pipe myself?
Don't do that. A gas pipe must be leak-tight after work and this must be checked. Leave it to a tradesman.
Does the gas pipe need to be removed if I switch to induction cooking?
It doesn't need to be removed, but we do safely cap off the gas tap in the kitchen. If you no longer use any gas at all, the entire pipe can be capped off from the meter.
Who removes the gas meter?
The grid operator. You request that from them. We do the pipes inside the home.
Can relocation be done together with a new cooker circuit?
Yes, that's convenient and saves an appointment. Pulling a cooker circuit costs €350 excl. VAT (€423.50 incl.).
I smell gas after a renovation. What now?
Windows open, main gas valve off, no naked flames and do not operate any switches, and call the national gas and electricity fault number: 0800-9009.
