In The Hague, the sewer connection often runs beneath a basement, an extended kitchen or a narrow front garden with paving. Breaking it open there quickly means tiling, floors and paving all over again. Relining can be the solution: the damaged pipe is repaired from the inside. Whether that's possible with your pipe, and whether the section is actually yours, we first determine with the camera.
Short answer
Relining in The Hague is the internal repair of a damaged sewer pipe on your own property, without excavation. The municipality of The Hague is responsible for the public sewer; a plumber is not permitted to work on that independently. A camera inspection shows where the damage is and whether relining is suitable. According to its own website, the municipality does not reimburse that inspection.
- First camera inspection: €225 excl. VAT (€272.25 incl.).
- Relining itself: price on request after the footage.
- Public part of the connection: always via the municipality.

Your part and the municipality's part
What the municipality of The Hague says
Problems with the drain on your own land are resolved by you, or by the owner if you rent; those costs are for you or the landlord. If the problem is in the public sewer, a plumber is not permitted to resolve that independently and you report it to the municipality via the form or 14070. The municipality does not pay the costs of a video inspection.

For relining, that means: we only repair the section that belongs to you. In the municipality's connection conditions, the municipal connection pipe extends 30 to 50 centimetres beyond the property boundary. If the footage shows that the damage is there or further towards the street, it is a matter for the municipality and not relining by us.

The Hague properties and relining
The municipality states that most new neighbourhoods have a separate system, with separate pipes for rainwater and wastewater, and that older neighbourhoods often still have one combined pipe. In a separate system there may be two pipes running to the street; with relining we only repair the pipe that is damaged and check that connections remain on the correct pipe.

- Townhouses and basements (for example around Statenkwartier, Duinoord and Bezuidenhout): the drain often runs under a tiled floor or basement to the front garden. It's precisely there that relining prevents a lot of breaking-out and tiling work.
- Upstairs and downstairs flats: the horizontal pipe under the downstairs flat is often shared. Then both owners or the owners' association (VvE) decide together on repair.
- Apartment blocks: for a shared stack or collector pipe, the VvE or landlord is the client. Our camera report gives them supporting evidence.
- Newer districts such as Ypenburg and Leidschenveen: PVC pipes. Damage there is more often a shifted connection than a deteriorated pipe; sometimes a short sleeve is enough.
When relining works and doesn't work in The Hague
Relining is a good choice in The Hague for cracks, leaking joints and root ingress in a pipe that otherwise runs straight. For a pipe that has developed a dip due to subsidence, or a section that has shifted considerably, replacing that section is better: the liner follows the old shape, including the dip. If there is a clay or cast-iron pipe from pre-war construction under your house, we also look at whether the entire length can be relined in one go, so that you do not get the next section in a few years.

How relining works at your property in The Hague
- Footage first. We clean the pipe and run the camera through. Using a metre counter and locator, we determine where the damage is and whether it's on your property.
- Advice with options. You'll hear whether relining is possible, or whether replacing a short section is better, with a price for both.
- Planning. We agree when there can be no water discharge for a few hours, and arrange access by agreement, including for shared pipes.
- Execution and final inspection. After curing and cutting open the side connections, the camera goes through one last time. You receive the footage.

Questions about relining in The Hague
Am I allowed to have relining done myself on the connection in the pavement in The Hague?
No. The section in public ground belongs to the municipality; a plumber is not allowed to work on it independently. You report that to the municipality via the form or 14070. We repair the section on your own property.
Does the municipality of The Hague reimburse the camera inspection?
No, according to the municipality it does not reimburse the costs of a video inspection. The inspection costs €225 excl. VAT (€272.25 incl.) according to our price list, plus call-out charges.
Can a shared pipe under a ground-floor flat in The Hague be relined?
Often yes, if the pipe has not collapsed. Because the pipe is shared, the owners or the owners' association (VvE) decide together. The camera report helps to make that decision.
What does relining cost in The Hague?
That depends on length, diameter, bends and connections. You receive a tailored price after the camera inspection, always in advance.
How long is the drain out of action?
Usually a few hours on the day of execution: during insertion and curing no water can pass through the pipe. We plan that together with you, and with the neighbours if it is a shared pipe.
