According to the municipality of Delft, it can replace or repair your sewer connection in the public area if you prove with a camera inspection that the cause is not in your own pipe. The exact boundary (property line, inspection chamber or façade) is not stated on that page. That's why we include in the report the distance from the façade and the location of the break, together with the camera footage. You can use this to show the municipality what's going on.
Clay, peat and an old city centre
Delft lies on clay and peat. The municipality mentions in its groundwater vision shrinkage as a form of soil subsidence in clay and peat areas: the ground subsides, a house on piles does not. The sewer connection between the two comes under stress. In Delft this is the classic cause of a displaced collar or a cracked pipe right next to the façade.
In the city centre, age is an additional factor. Canal houses and old upstairs flats often have a long, shared drain to the street, and under the floor there is sometimes an old earthenware or cast-iron pipe. Repair there requires consultation with all owners and careful consideration of the route, because space is limited.
